The AIPCT reading group for Fall of 2018 will begin September 5th at 7:30 PM. We will read Umberto Eco’s novel, The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana, and we will discuss the story, its many images, and the structure of the novel in light of Eco’s own theories of the role of the reader, semiosis, the open work, and authorial intentions. We will also do some phenomenology of popular culture. You can obtain the book from Amazon or ABEbooks.com, quite cheaply. The group will meet every Wednesday evening, except the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, and unless otherwise stated on Facebook. The meeting will run until the second week of December, with the aim of finishing the novel then. The public is invited and you need not RSVP. Light snacks and drinks are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own. Meetings usually last until 9:30 and dissolve into conversation.
