Seventh Annual Fall Creativity Conference: Metaphysics and Its Discontents, October 21, 2024, 4:00-7:30

The AIPCT and the Foundation for the Philosophy of Creativity are pleased to present its Seventh Creativity Conference. We have moved to the fall due to expected spring travel by the Directors of AIPCT in the foreseeable future. This fall’s conference is dedicated to the theme of metaphysics.

We begin with a talk by Crispin Sartwell on the New Realism and its critique of pragmatism. Monday, October 21, 2024 at 12:00 Noon: Lunchtime Talk Series, “Realism, the Characteristically American Philosophy” This talk will be held at the Center for Dewey Studies on campus at SIU. The conference is free and open to the public. Doors open at 3:30. Anyone desiring a Zoom link can send a request for a link to personalist61@gmail.com. The link will be sent about 15 minutes before the talks begin.

The Speakers

Prof. Dr. Godehard Brüntrup, SJ
Professor, Hochschule für Philosophy München; Visiting Scholar, Saint Louis University
Prof. Dr. Godehard Brüntrup, SJ, is the former Erich Lejeune Foundation Chair and now Professor of Metaphysics, Philosophy of Mind, and Philosophy of Language at the Munich School of Philosophy (Hochschule für Philosophie, München). He is also a Visiting Scholar in philosophy at Saint Louis University. In addition to over sixty articles, he is the author of several monographs, including Mentale Verursachung, Das Leib-Seele-Problem, and Philosophie des Geistes. He is co-editor of several journals and anthologies, including The Rationality of Theism, Auferstehung des Leibes, Unheilege Macht, Panpsychism: Contemporary Perspectives, Prozess-Religion-Gott, Panentheism & Panpsychism, and Authenticity.
Dr. Dean Zimmerman
Distinguished Professor, Rutgers University
Dr. Dean Zimmerman is a Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University and co-director of the Rutgers Center for the Philosophy of Religion. He is founding editor of Oxford Studies in Metaphysics (now co-edited with Karen Bennett) and co-editor (with Lara Buchak) of Oxford Studies in Philosophy of Religion. He has co-edited several other books and his publications include over fifty articles. A collection of papers titled Time, Persistence, and Eternity is forthcoming from Oxford University Press.
